Seasons Greetings from Ancient Traditions

By Marsha Silvestri

While researching various foods for my 101 Anti-Aging Vegan book, I came across some fascinating info about mushrooms. These life forms are not actually plants, they’re a fungus. One surprising discovery is that their DNA is closer to humans than the plant kingdom. I also found several unexpected facts and lore, that connects mushrooms to many ancient practices to the traditions we celebrate for the holidays and Christmas today.

CONSCIOUS EATING - FOOD IS LIFE ~ AND SUSTENANCE
© 2019 by Marsha Silvestri

Life as we know it is at risk as the Earth's natural resources are being exploited at an alarming unsustainable rate. This will have devastating consequences on human life, animals, plants and wildlife, unless we can generate global massive change. Our ability to grow food, to sustain growing populations, and access to food as we know it is endangered, along with countless valuable cultural traditions associated with food and its role in our daily life.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! By Marsha Silvestri Dear Friends, For this week of feasting, I wish to offer a few tips for staying healthy through the holiday season. ENDANGERED FORESTS - ENDANGERED PLANET

© 2019 by Marsha Silvestri

DANGER - PLANET ON FIRE!  Today over 300 bushfires are raging across eastern Australia creating catastrophic conditions. Last week the “hot topic” in California were the wildfires as their frequency have become a new norm, dubbed the “fire season”, fueled by the Santa Ana winds, dry weather plus other factors. As devastating as these blazes are, some are “small fry” compared to massive infernos blazing worldwide that are ignored by mainstream media or forgotten after a quick “flash in the pan” minimal press. Apocalyptic fires in Africa and Indonesia have escaped the news. Recent fires that did get global attention include the torching of the Amazon (more than 87,000 fires this year in Brazil! Yes, you read that number right, most of which were deliberately set by arsonists!).

MAKE EARTH DAY EVERY DAY

© 2019 by Marsha Silvestri

In honor of Earth Day (April 22nd) and Earth Week, concurrent this year with Easter (April 21st), the topic of today's LifeBlog is RENEWAL.

Easter always coincides with the spring season of new beginnings, renewal and rebirth. The date for Easter changes year-to-year according to the Lunar calendar as the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the March 21 Vernal Equinox. Orthodox Easter, based on the Julian Calendar, usually occurs about a week later. In Christianity, Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection is a common theme in many religions and cultures observing feasts and festivals celebrating the Rites of Spring, such as Beltane from Celtic traditions, which occurs on April 30–May 1st. In pagan traditions Ostara preceded Easter as a time of renewal after a long cold winter.
